Can Watching TV and Playing Video Games Damage a Child's Eyesight?

Watching TV and playing video games do not by themselves damage a child’s eyesight. However, children with existing vision problems that are undetected and untreated may experience visual symptoms after prolonged periods of watching TV or playing video games.

A child sitting very close to the TV, or maintaining a head turn or head tilt while watching TV could be symptoms of a vision problem. Other symptoms include intermittent blurred vision, headaches, and eyestrain during or after playing video games.

Parents are advised to bring their children for a comprehensive eye examination to test for eye focusing, eye teaming, and eye tracking skills to ensure their eyes are working efficiently.
